In 2022, UnitedHealthcare will re-enter the Affordable Care Act fold by expanding its services to seven more states. Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Michigan, and Texas are among the states where the payer is seeking regulatory clearance. “We are excited to have the opportunity to serve more people with affordable coverage options and the consumer-centric benefits we know that people want,” said Krista Nelson, UnitedHealthcare’s chief growth and experience officer. UnitedHealthcare’s last foray into state marketplaces ended in 2017 when the insurer pulled out of all but a “handful” of states. The newest statement signals a renewed commitment to reconstruction. UnitedHealthcare expanded into three states in 2021, and its planned expansion in 2022 will more than treble that.
