UnitedHealth Group earned a $4.3 billion dollar profit in the second quarter, roughly $2.3 billion less than it reported in Q2 2020, according to information provided by the company. UnitedHealth Group reported a significant drop in second-quarter profitability, while Optum reported an increase in revenue, operating margins, and scope of service. Revenues of $71.3 billion were up 15% from the previous quarter, thanks to well-diversified growth at subsidiaries Optum and UnitedHealthcare, according to UHG.

BCBS appoints new Chairman, awards grants
Bukata Hayes was Blue Cross Blue Shield Minnesota’s first vice president of racial and health equity, and he is now the board chair of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of Minnesota. Hayes has been on the Foundation board of directors since 2015 and joined the Blue Cross enterprise in March of this year. In addition, BCBS has given more than $3.2 million in grants to 27 Minnesota charitable groups. “These grants are the latest example of supporting our grantees to improve community health across Minnesota while deepening our commitment to racial and health equity,” said Hayes.
HCSC gets a new Treasurer
The Health Care Service Corporation has made has named Sarah Soong vice president and treasurer. Sarah’s responsibilities in this position include enterprise treasury operations, corporate finance, and banking relationships, corporate capital structure, investment management activities, and capital expenditures on internal initiatives.
