Humana and Southwoods Health have established a partnership that will give Humana members more local access to in-network health care. Humana’s Commercial, Medicare Advantage (HMO, PPO, PFFS), and Ohio Medicaid health plans are included in the agreement. “We are very pleased that local Humana members can now access the Surgical Hospital at Southwoods as an in-network option for quality health care in the Valley,” said Ed Muransky, Southwoods CEO. “We’ve listened to the needs of the community and worked hard to expand our relationship with Humana. Being able to increase access to our growing network of services is very important to us.”

Humana has announced the launch of a new Medicare Advantage PPO plan in 37 rural North Carolina counties, in response to market demand in the state’s eastern region. The move, according to Humana North Carolina Medicare Vice President Kathleen Schwarzwalder, is a response to the limited health plan options available to Medicare-eligible individuals in rural North Carolina. She claims that the plan focuses on whole-person healthcare, including dentistry, hearing, and vision, and offers access to all major hospital systems, including telehealth-enabled virtual medical visits, making it easier for rural populations to seek out and get care.

Chubb Limited is paying.75 billion in cash for rival insurer Cigna Corp’s Asia Pacific and Turkey divisions. In 2022, the transaction is likely to be finalized. Cigna’s Accident & Health and Life business in South Korea, Taiwan, New Zealand, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Indonesia, as well as Cigna’s 51 percent participation in a joint venture in Turkey, will be acquired by Chubb. The purchase is expected to boost Chubb’s core operating EPS and return on equity by 6 percent and 55 basis points, respectively, for the full year 2023.
