The new Alzheimer’s drug Aduhelm will not be covered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island. In an email, Jill Flaxington, a representative for BCBSRI, Rhode Island’s largest private health insurer, noted that the company is awaiting a decision from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on Medicare coverage. “BCBSRI will evaluate our coverage decisions when more clinical data becomes available to determine whether [Aduhelm] achieves clearly shown clinical value and safety,” BCBSRI says of its assessment process.

Priority Health launches Plans for travel insurance
Priority Health has announced the debut of its new MyPriority Travel plans, which will begin on January 1, 2022. The new plans are aimed at people who wish to travel for work or pleasure but still need health insurance while outside of Michigan. When getting eligible services and care from any Cigna provider outside of Michigan and within the United States, members will have access to the same comprehensive in-network benefits. “We have one of the strongest networks in Michigan, and we are excited to continue partnering with Cigna to provide care to our members when they are traveling,” said Carrie Kincaid, Vice President of Individual Markets at Priority Health.

Walmart partners with Transcarent to serve self-insured firms
For the first time, Walmart is making its discounts on medications and other services available to self-insured firms through a partnership with Transcarent. Walmart’s healthcare services are now available to businesses of all sizes, according to a recently announced partnership. “We are committed to providing care to customers and the communities we serve through an integrated, omnichannel approach that improves engagement, health equity, and outcomes,” said Cheryl Pegus, MD, executive vice president of health and wellness at Walmart.
