Oracle’s nearly $30 billion acquisition of Cerner is Oracle’s biggest yet, launching it into the modern era of mergers and acquisitions. Since 2005, Chairman and former CEO, Larry Ellison has led Oracle to spend at least $1 billion on an acquisition in only 15 deals. Seven of the transactions totaled more than $5 billion. While rivals Salesforce and Microsoft were completing their largest deals ever, the company had remained rather quiet on the M&A front. As of the quarter ended Nov. 30, Oracle had $23 billion in cash and marketable securities.
