Highmark, a health insurer, and hospital network operator is seeking state regulatory clearance to buy Downtown-based Gateway Health from Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health. Since the non-profit insurer’s inception in 1992, Highmark has controlled 50% of Gateway.
