Amazon Web Services (AWS) is to invest $40 million in organizations focusing on improving health outcomes for underprivileged and underrepresented communities over the next three years. As part of the project, participating companies will receive AWS credits and technical assistance. Events that occur outside of the hospital have a significant impact on health outcomes. Medical care, according to the American Action Forum, is only responsible for 10-20% of health outcomes. Thirty percent is caused by inheritance, 40-50 percent by conduct, and the remaining 20% is caused by a patient’s social and physical environment. In addition, the company has made a financial commitment to assist with other medical issues. In April, AWS announced a $12 million investment in cloud-based disease-fighting technology. In addition, in 2020, the company would invest $20 million in COVID-19 diagnosis, research, and testing.
