Recently State Senate President Stephen Sweeney publicly announced his intention to appoint Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg to the Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey board of directors. Weinberg will resign from the Legislature to assume the new role, Sweeney said in a statement. Weinberg said a year ago that she would not seek re-election after three decades in Trenton. “Loretta Weinberg’s distinguished career of public service has been defined by a selfless commitment to the needs of others and a fierce determination to improve the quality of life for everyone — especially those experiencing hardship,” Sweeney, D-Gloucester, said in a statement.
